Storm was born in the desert town of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, Australia. Born into, what one might call a Gypsy lifestyle, Storm spent his free spirited childhood, traveling all over Australia. A passionate storyteller, Storm spent his teen years writing and acting. Storm graduated from Flinders University as a Film Director with an honors degree in film psychoanalysis and a degree in philosophy.
Storm’s work in the film industry has been recognised both nationally and internationally. His talent for writing began at an early age, winning an award for a controversial short play “The Wrong Pub” at the age of twelve. Since then he has written a myriad of short stories, poems and scripts with a specific focus on the dramatic and in particular the dispossessed.
With over 18 years as a writer/director, he has created TVC's, Documentaries, Music Video Clips, Internal Communications, Digital and Branded Content, Short Films and Feature Films.
Early in his career, Screen Australia awarded Storm with the RAW NERVE initiative for his script “Sleeping With The Light On”. A few years later the South Australian Film Corporation awarded $50,000 to fund his short film
Storm has also received various support from film bodies for his imaginative concepts and ideas and now has 6 feature film treatments and more notably, 3 feature film scripts which are finance ready for pre production.
Storm has finished production on his Directorial Debut feature film THE SCHOOL which is currently in Post Production.
Storm Ashwood’s outstanding achievements in making award-winning films have been recognised both nationally and internationally: Among these film credits are: MOTH - BEST IN SHOW at the 2016 Best Shorts Competition, AWARD OF EXCELLENCE at the 2016 Cinefest Film Festival, AUDIENCE AWARD at the 2016 Night of Horror Film Festival, with 4 more Nominations and screenings in 12 festivals around the world. PAPER PLANES - BEST FOREIGN FILM at the 2012 California International Shorts Festival, BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY at the 2012 St Kilda Film Festival, BEST SOUND DESIGN at the 2012 South Australian Screen Awards, with 7 more nominations including a 2012 AACTA nomination for BEST SHORT SCREEN PLAY and screening in 28 festivals around the world. SLEEPING WITH THE LIGHT ON- BEST FILM at the 2007 South Australian Screen Awards. Storm’s other short films, have been well received in many festivals such as The LA Film Festival and The Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, as well as a multitude of nominations. His feature film script A SEARCH FOR HOPE was a runner up for the 21st Century Screenwriting award. And his script ESCAPE AND EVASION (co-written by Leigh Nemeth) has received Screen funding to develop itself into a finance ready shooting script.
